For the historian, see <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/19082404._Andrew_Hurley" title=" Andrew Hurley" rel="nofollow noopener"> Andrew Hurley</a>.</i><br /><br />Andrew Hurley is an American academic and translator, best known for his English-language translations of Spanish literature, particularly the works of <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/500._Jorge_Luis_Borges" title=" Jorge Luis Borges" rel="nofollow noopener"> Jorge Luis Borges</a>. Over his career, he has translated more than 30 book-length works by a range of authors from Latin America and Spain.<br />He earned his doctorate from Rice University in 1973 with a dissertation on narrative strategies and reader response in novel theory. He later taught in the English Department at the Universidad de Puerto Rico, where he was named Professor Emeritus in 2009.<br />His translations include works by <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/106196._Bartolom__de_las_Casas" title=" Bartolomé de las Casas" rel="nofollow noopener"> Bartolomé de las Casas</a>, <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/25575._Rub_n_Dar_o" title=" Rubén Darío" rel="nofollow noopener"> Rubén Darío</a>, <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/33301873._Ernesto_Sabato" title=" Ernesto Sabato" rel="nofollow noopener"> Ernesto Sabato</a>, <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/12555._Reinaldo_Arenas" title=" Reinaldo Arenas" rel="nofollow noopener"> Reinaldo Arenas</a>, and <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/40398._Arturo_P_rez_Reverte" title=" Arturo Pérez-Reverte" rel="nofollow noopener"> Arturo Pérez-Reverte</a>, among others, contributing significantly to the accessibility of Spanish-language literature for English-speaking readers.
