Author Description Bengal is a French comics creator. Born in 1976 in the Rhône-Alpes region of France, he currently lives and works in Reims, in the Champagne-Ardenne region.<br /><br />Bengal credits his father for introducing him to comics at a young age, with such classic Franco-Belgian titles as <i><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2024286.Les_Tuniques_Bleues" rel="nofollow noopener">Les Tuniques Bleues</a> (The Blue Tunics)</i>, <i>Jérémiah</i>, and <i> <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/73375-le-scrameustache" rel="nofollow noopener">The Scrameustache</a> </i>. A fan of both French bandes dessinées and Japanese mangas, his appreciation for these diverse styles is evident in his own work.<br /><br />Before becoming a writer and illustrator of comics, he worked for four years at the video game developer Darkworks. He then worked at the French comics workshop L'Atelier 510 TTC for three years; it was there that he met writer John-David Morvan in 1996. He has since collaborated with Morvan many times: on the two-volume series <i> <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/73145-meka" rel="nofollow noopener">Meka</a> </i> (2003–2005), the one-shot <i> <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2811194-t-o-o-the-only-one" rel="nofollow noopener">T.O.O. (The Only One)</a> </i> in 2005, and the five-volume <i> <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/73123-naja" rel="nofollow noopener">Naja</a> </i> (2008–2011). In 2004, he illustrated the chapter pages for the first volume of <i><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/58164-les-chroniques-de-sillage" rel="nofollow noopener">Les chroniques de Sillage</a> (The Chronicles of Wake)</i>, a spin-off of the Science Fiction series <i><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/series/58165-sillage" rel="nofollow noopener">Sillage</a> (Wake)</i>; the following year he illustrated the short story <i>Double jeu (Double Game)</i>, written by series creators Morvan and Philippe Buchet, for the second volume.<br /><br />In 2007, Bengal collaborated with comics creators Alessandro Barbucci and Canepa Barbara for a short story titled <i>Like a Virgin</i>, written by Barbucci, included in <i> <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7055592-sky-doll" rel="nofollow noopener">Sky-Doll: Spaceship Collection</a> </i>.<br /><br />Bengal's first solo effort is the manga-inspired High Fantasy <i><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13384858-luminae" rel="nofollow noopener">Luminae: La dame perdue</a> (The Lost Lady)</i>, the first book in what is planned as an ongoing series, was published in 2011.<br /><br />While much of his work has been published only in France, Bengal's short story <i>Formidable</i> was included in the first volume of the comics anthology <i> <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/258028.Flight_Volume_One" rel="nofollow noopener">Flight</a> </i>, published in 2004 by Image Comics in the United States.<br />
